We had a very nice stay, the straff was friendly and kind, the food excellent and the public baths were very warm with a nice forest view.
Beautiful area for a very quiet and relaxing experience of traditional Japanese hospitality. The rooms are comfortable in a very rustic setting.
Very disappointing stay – poor service and not worth the price
We had high expectations for this ryokan, but our stay was truly disappointing. Communication before arrival was already slow and unclear, and things didn’t improve upon arrival.
At check-in, everything felt rushed. The staff member practically walked away from us, and the whole process was reduced to: sit down, pick your dinner and check-out time on a paper – no welcome, no explanation, no hospitality.
The building itself was very old and quite run-down. It was clean, but clearly in need of renovation. The onsen photos online were misleading: the beautiful baths shown actually belong to another building, which we couldn’t access from where we were staying.
Dinner was another disappointment. It was traditional Japanese style, but the food quality and taste were poor, and nothing was explained. The staff spoke almost no English and showed little effort to make guests feel comfortable. When we tried to order something to drink afterwards, we were first ignored and then told quite rudely that it wasn’t possible.
The only nice thing was the surrounding nature, which was peaceful and scenic.
Overall, the whole experience felt cold and impersonal – as if you just come, eat, and leave. We were honestly relieved that we had booked only one night. Definitely not worth the high price, and we would never stay here again.
Beautiful ryokan in a stunning location. The service from the staff was impeccable. The shuttle bus from the station was very handy.
The evening meal was many courses and provided a insight into Japanese traditional food. There were maikos during the meal for entertainment. The breakfast in the morning was my wife's favourite meal.
As stated by others, the accommodation is slightly aged, which we didn't mind. However, unfortunately under the table and on the skirting boards there was a large build-up of dust, which was very noticeable when sleeping on the floor. That was our only criticism of our otherwise amazing stay.
Very charming Ryokan, and a fantastic experience from a cultural point of view. The meals are served in very specific times, and there's a lot of food being served, so you need to be prepared to eat a quantity of food. Everything is very well prepared, and the staff is very friendly and respectful!
