The wait time to check in was excessive, and the surprise $50 fee for adjoining rooms was infuriating. There were loose wires sticking out of the bedroom wall in 2278.
For many years we have enjoyed our stays at the St Francis. Sadly never again. Where do I start? Check in was OK and it was downhill from there. While all staff was great the fact that they were wearing winter coats and scarves meant something. The lobby was about 55 degrees and the hallways on our floor even colder. The room decor was a 5/10 and no mini bars was a surprise. No restaurant for breakfast very disappointing...a coffee bar with fast food at best was disappointing...and extremely expensive for fast food. We are happy to spend lots on great food, we just didn't get any. And, we had to wear winter coats while "dining" in the lobby! The new bar in the lobby, while nice removes the elegance from the lobby entry...which we can't use when the bar isn't open incidentally. Total head scratcher. Someone was actually stationed there preventing our exit for this reason when the bar isn't open. Honestly, with all the changes it was a Holiday Inn Express experience. Looking forward to our next stay in SF at the Ritz, Four Seasons or Fairmont.
This historical location is ideal for anyone visiting the city. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were very attentive. A special thanks to Elaine Dai for making our stay even more enjoyable and unforgettable.

Our stay was disappointing given the premium price of the hotel. The property appeared significantly understaffed, which was noticeable throughout our visit and resulted in consistently long wait times—for check-in, valet, dining reservations, and general service. While some staff members were professional and attentive, others were rude or unhelpful, leading to an inconsistent guest experience.
We were patient and understanding of the busy period; however, when paying a premium rate, a certain level of service and efficiency is expected. Unfortunately, the combination of long delays and uneven service detracted from what should have been a high-quality stay. Pretty disappointed in our experience overall.
