Staff service was excellent

The first room had no electricity. After complaining, it took over 10 minutes for someone to attend. I was then moved to another room where the heating did not work. When I raised this, staff admitted they were already aware of the issue and said it was the only room available. I requested a refund and offered to arrange alternative accommodation myself. Only after prolonged arguing did they suddenly “find” another room with fully functioning heating and electricity. This is the third time my team and I have experienced heating problems at the Montcalm Brewery. The rooms are outdated, the electrical and heating systems are unreliable, and front desk service is ineffective and unhelpful. For the price charged, this is unacceptable. Not worth the money, not worth the time. I will not return.

Due to its location I have stayed at the hotel several times with varying degrees of satisfaction. Due to the nature of the converted building the rooms and bathrooms are all configured and furnished differently and so it is luck of the draw getting a room that meets all of ones preferences. In my experience the rooms are also getting rather tired and there is always some defect present. On this occasion the lighting in the room was very poor and the lightbulb in the hallway was not working making the entrance very dark. The door lock did not work. The water temperature in the shower was difficult to control and one day it was impossible to obtain hot water. The room was also very cold as I could not get the heating system to work. Rather than guests having to constantly complain and request maintenance to visit, it would be better if rooms were throughly checked for defects before being let to guests.

The staff were very welcoming. My room was upgraded from a single to a double which was so lovely. The room was big, clean and the bed was comfy. Slept great. I'm still waiting for my £50 refundable deposit to go back on my card.
